Mayor sofa by Arne Jacobsen
The design for the Mayor sofa was created for Søllerød City Hall, built from 1939-1942 as part of a overall design where Arne Jacobsen was the main architect for everything from the building’s appearance to the design of furniture and door handles. The sofa stands out from the furniture Arne Jacobsen is known for today. This well-known furnitures shows an Arne Jacobsen who had found his style inspired by international modernism while in contrast Mayor sofa features a unique style that draws upon the Danish traditions of fine woods and functional solutions as well as the international modernism for which Arne Jacobsen is famous. Komorebi – Candleholder Designed by Piero Lissoni
Light and nature: aspects that determine a change of state and relationship with ambient and objects are explored by Porro in Komorebi, vase-candleholder designed in limited edition by Piero Lissoni and presented the 15th December in the Porro showroom, in Via Durini 15.
The continuous game of contrasts and dualisms is indeed expression and peculiarity of the Komorebi’s project nature, a term which expresses the visual phenomenon of light through the tree’s leaves in Japanese.
Changeable in use, on one side candleholder and the other flowerpot, it interprets the different aspects of light and nature trough the movement change of its function condition, determining their union and undoing their duality. Realized entirely in turned-wood, the choice of finishing revokes the juxtaposition between different shade of colours: the soft and warm tones of canaletto walnut and the cold and decisive ones of natural maple are alternated to lacquered rosso cina or denim interiors, while remaining perfectly in balance and harmony thanks to the aesthetic simplicity of Komorebi lines and shape.
An exercise of style that, once again, confirms the Porro’s mastery in working with wood and realizing objects characterized by a clean aesthetic and an essential language, based on consistency and simplification, following a continuos research on finishings, refinement of line and the technical quality of its details.
The setting of the presentation a unique set-up in the Porro showroom defines by the company’s products formal cleanness accompanied by the simple lines of Komorebi, together with the windows shop that proposes the graphic sign of the vase-candleholder.
Proposed in the set-up some of the novelties of Porro 2016 collection, among which the bed Makura by Piero Lissoni, interpretation of domestic warmth between rationality and sensuality. Lightly suspended with its welcoming and inviting form, it is embellished with soft cushions and a sinuous covering in leather or fabric that ends in a light volute.
Purity and modernity define the Voyage chairs by GamFratesi instead; the structure in natural or black stained maple remains visible on the back and on the sides on which you can apply a close-fitting dress in natural or dark brown leather, and leads back to precise and ‘50s-inspired lines combined with the minimal and rigorous ones of Metallico table by Piero Lissoni in the new rosso antico finishing. Another novelty presented, the horizontal Modern sideboard in black stained hemlock with a santos rosewood open module, an architectural presence raised up on the new Bridge foot in black metal H.40 cm, a reverse C. Closing the day area a System library composition in palissandro.
A wide space is also dedicated to the wardrobes, quintessence of Porro’s ability of personalization in four different variations: a small corner teak Boiserie accessorized with hanging racks and luminous shelves and a refined shoe rack in mongoi; a Pull-out sliding Storage closet with lacquered opaco sabbia doors and “cenere” hemlock interiors; the angular open Dressing Room in mongoi conveys its precious trunk effect highlighted by rich equipments and finally the Hinged Storage with Iron glass doors enclosed by a precious frame in burnished brass to which the precious Acquario drawers in transparent glass and burnished brass frame, is matched.
Presented in the setting also the eclectic Boutique Mast system, conform to both the day and night area, in two different compositions: for the entrance with iron uprights and long and short hanging racks for jackets and coats, a black stained hemlock shelf and a small Modern open unit in black stained hemlock with rosso cina interiors; for the bedroom, an elegant graphical cage characterized by thin circular metallic uprights in burnished brass, large cantilevered glider-wing shelves in eucalyptus and large mirrors.
